Updates and Secret Knitting

I've officially hit that moment that I suspect most knitters who blog hit. The moment when you are knitting something as a surprise gift for someone and you can't blog about it because the recipient of said gift might see! I have a new found respect for those bloggers that somehow come up with something else interesting to write about. Well, I don't have that problem. Despite my best efforts, the recipient of my secret knitting stumbled upon it somewhat randomly. The silver lining to the ruined surprise is that I can share the project and progress with you!

So, some history on the gift. Ever since I met the recipient he's had a long list of knitting projects he'd like me to tackle. Let me tell you, it's a really nice change to have someone who wants you to knit for him. Remind me of that next time I complain that he wants yet another hat or pair of socks. On the list is this red knit watchmen's cap from Best Made Company.

So I picked up some really pretty worsted weight yarn from my new favorite place, Wisconsin Craft Market, and got to knitting. It might not look like much, but let me tell you - this is one of the best knitting supply store I've ever been in. Everything you could ask for is there. It even organizes its yarn based on weight instead of brand... LOVE!

After gauging to get the right look, I settled on size 6 needles and casted on with a super stretchy cast on. I'm working the body in a twisted rib stitch and I think its coming out pretty nicely. When worn it should look almost exactly like it. (Patch excluded)

After a long flight from Madison to San Diego... I've got a good portion of the hat complete. I should be able to get the rest of it complete on the flight back home. Just in time for Valentine's Day!
