Pattern Selected

So after much deliberation, I'm going to go with the Purl Bee's pattern. Huzzah! And now begins the great yarn hunt. The yarn the pattern calls for is Purl Soho's Super Soft Merino. Which looks very pretty and squishy, but at $20 a skein and needing 53 skeins of yarn... for those math majors out there, that's more than $1,000 for the yarn. Woof! As much as I am excited to create this project and have this be an heirloom blanket for my future children/grandchildren to have... I'm not ready to drop a grand on yarn for my first crotchet blanket project.

After looking at the pattern notes on Ravelry - it seems like a few folks have had success with Loops & Thread's Cozy Wool yarn. Which is great! I love Loops & Thread's! For being such a inexpensive yarn, it really doesn't feel like it. I didn't realize that Loops & Thread's is only sold through Michael's... and I can't order online with them. Guess I'll be swinging by my local store to see what they have in stock.

The pattern itself calls for 11 colors for a total of 11 stripes. I don't think that I want 11 colors in my blanket.. I'm thinking at least 4 different colors - maybe 5. We'll se. I know at least that I'll need 28 skeins of my base color. Which will be Loops & Thread's Cozy Wool's Fleece. So I'll probably start stocking up on these.
